Reading, Lately
By my count, a year and a half has gone by since I posted a stack of books I’m reading. I had a hard time focusing when the pandemic started and then sweet baby Arthur joined our family, and I suppose I just haven’t been reading as much. Not for lack of trying! I got halfway through Barack Obama’s memoir before Arthur was born. I think I even brought it with me to the hospital (hahaha!) and then it took me a long while to get any further. At 706 pages, it’s not exactly the easiest book to balance on your lap while breastfeeding. But now I’m nearing the end and marveling at how crystal-clearly Obama writes.
Another memoir I’ve been reading is Stanley Tucci’s. I really love people who really love food. Then there’s a heartfelt cookbook called Extra Helping that’s all about recipes for caring, connecting, and building community. The other books in my stack relate to gardening, either directly or in a less obvious way. A collection of eclogues written by my astonishingly brilliant friend Glenn Mott. A picture book about sleepy veggies. And a practical guide to permaculture.
Gardening has been on my mind lately because Graham and I are building planter boxes for a vegetable garden at home. More on that soon!
