Kitchen Garden: Dreams + Plans
I’ve wanted to plant a garden for a long time, but I haven’t had any outdoor space of my own. Now I’m lucky enough to have a little space and I am dreaming about all the culinary herbs, vegetables, and fruits that I want to grow: raspberries, roses, lettuce, lemon verbena, the list goes on!
We are making plans for a kitchen garden. This is the before photo, and hopefully soon there’ll be a few planter boxes lined up along that stone wall. When we moved here, that wall was painted, rather inexplicably, a yellow-brown color that didn’t do it any favors. We gave it a fresh coat of creamy white to match the trim on the house, and you’ll just have to trust me that it made a massive difference.
Have you ever built planter boxes? I know we need to seal the wood to protect it and help it to last many years. Once the boxes are set up, I’ll fill them with layers of wood, mulch, compost, and potting soil to create a solid foundation for the plants. If you could grow food in your backyard, what would you plant? I’m curious to hear about all your best gardening tips!
