Our Kids Need Us
No recipes this week—just sadness and gratitude. Like everyone, I’m heartbroken about the school shooting in Uvalde and the perpetual acts of gun violence across the country. I keep thinking about those families, the utter devastation. I’ve been holding my son extra close and feeling both grateful that he’s in my arms and a twinge of guilt that other parents can’t hug their own babies. Is there anything more important than protecting our children? They are our children, our future, our dreams embodied. I would do anything for Arthur. There’s no personal “freedom” that I wouldn’t give up in a heartbeat if doing so ensured his safety. This is a throwback photo of us—one of my favorites for his bright eyes, that drop of drool, his littleness. Our kids need us.
This Cup of Jo essay is beautifully written and includes many ways to help.
