Reading, Lately
Here’s a funny story: G asked me for a book recommendation and I handed him Jenny Offill’s Dept. of Speculation, which I thought of because I was excited to read her next novel, Weather. He was reading the book while taking BART to San Francisco and another passenger started flirting with him, saying how much she too loved that book. (I totally get it—a cute guy reading a fantastic book while riding public transportation? That’s like kryptonite!)
In addition to Weather, I’ve also been reading (and laughing out loud to) Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s debut novel, Fleishman Is in Trouble, plus a new cookbook and a collection of essays on food. A sweet friend sent me Women Who Run With the Wolves, and I’ve been flipping through Dame Traveler in anticipation of some upcoming travel.
There’s one notable commonality among these excellent books: they all happen to be written by women. I’m sending my immense gratitude and admiration to the many brilliant, funny, talented women who make this world a more wonderful place. Happy International Women’s Day on March 8th!
