Black Publishing Power

This week, I’m joining the Amistad Books campaign to turn bestseller lists Black by purchasing books written by Black authors. I bought Brit Bennett’s new novel, The Vanishing Half, and cannot wait for it to arrive in the mail. (LOVED her first novel!) Also, I committed to a monthly donation to For the Culture, a forthcoming printed magazine led by Klancy Miller celebrating Black women in food and wine. If you’d like some cookbook and other food book recommendations, Edna Lewis’ The Taste of Country Cooking is a bible that I turn to often and quote passages from in my recipe-writing course. I also love:

The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook by Cheryl Day and Griffith Day

Black Girl Baking by Jerrelle Guy

My Soul Looks Back by Jessica B. Harris

The Africa Cookbook by Jessica B. Harris

Brown Sugar Kitchen by Tanya Holland

Between Harlem and Heaven by JJ Johnson and Alexander Smalls with Veronica Chambers

Cooking Solo by Klancy Miller

Notes from a Young Black Chef by Kwame Onwuachi with Joshua David Stein

Jubilee by Toni Tipton-Martin
