Spring 2020 Releases: Part 2
This is the second in a series of posts highlighting spring 2020 cookbooks. Now is a fantastic time to buy books, and it’s easy to do so without leaving your home; you can support local independent bookstores by shopping online with Bookshop.
If last week’s post was all about books that can transport you abroad, then this week’s is a celebration of homegrown recipes and talent.
1. Trejo’s Tacos by Danny Trejo with Hugh Garvey:
A tribute to our nation’s greatest food city, Los Angeles, and more specifically to its vibrant Latinx culture. I can’t wait to taste the hibiscus margarita.
2. The Phoenicia Diner Cookbook by Mike Cioffi, Chris Bradley, and Sara B. Franklin:
While I’ve never had a chance to visit this classic American diner in New York’s Catskill Mountains, I almost feel like I have after reading and cooking from this book. Also, I love the endpapers (the double-page spreads that are pasted to the inside of the front and back covers).
3. Cool Beans by Joe Yonan:
What a timely cookbook! Beans have always been cool, but these days we’ve been cooking a lot more of them. You, too? This book has 125 different recipes to try, with a whole chapter on drinks and desserts.
4. Vegetable Kingdom by Bryant Terry:
As he does with all of his books, Bryant Terry includes a playlist to listen to while cooking your way through these 150 vegan recipes. He was inspired by Dr. Jessica B. Harris, who did a similar thing in her brilliant cookbook The Welcome Table: African American Heritage Cooking.
